Have you ever thought of being your child’s first dentist instead of having to constantly run behind your dentist?

So, we thought to tell you about how you can also manage your duty of being a dentist for your child by learning some simple steps or ways to diagnose treat and take care of your baby.

Milk teeth eruption: You should know when the eruption of teeth occurs in your baby. The first milk tooth erupts at the age of 6 months until the age of 5 years. The process of shedding of teeth starts and permanent teeth start to erupt. During the eruption, your baby will get various systemic effects like diarrhea, fever, cough, and chills, which is a normal reaction of the body. Newly erupted teeth should be taken good care of as they are at high risk of caries. You need to be well aware of which tooth erupted when so that any discrepancy in the size shape and number of teeth can be known right then.

Taking care of their Gums: Gums of your babies are quite soft and sensitive so they should be cleaned and taken care of. For babies we don’t use toothbrushes or dentifrices right away, rather use a moistened cotton cloth or gauze piece to clean the area of gums after feeding should be done twice a day and before going to bed.

Brushing their teeth: After the eruption of milk teeth, brushing can be done. Using brushes with soft and gentle bristles, large handles and small heads are preferred. Using toothpaste as per teeth present in mouth is done starting from toothpaste of a grain of rice size to that of the size of a pea

Monitoring tooth decay: Keep a lookout on baby tooth decay because newly erupted teeth are at high risk of caries thus parents should be vigilant if any spots white or black and pits are seen on the tooth surface. Immediately consult your dentist for its intervention.

Teething: teething in children takes two years during milk teeth eruption, it is a very uncomfortable process for both you and your baby. Symptoms of teething are swollen gums, drooling, diarrhea, fever, and chills. Your baby will cry a lot and his sleep will get affected.

To prevent such complications, use teething rings that are chewy and cool gives a soothing effect and a kind of gum exercise. Moreover rubbing the gums with a clean finger and massaging them prevents inflammation and pain during teething.

Diet: proper food and diet should be maintained by you for your child. Diet rich in sugars and sodas should be prohibited. Older children should eat more fruits which are crunchy and cut off sticky or processed food which gets stick to the tooth surface and further leads to varies in infants like baby bottle tooth decay.
