Permanent denture options

You’ve probably seen old aged people with no teeth or totally edentulous wearing dentures which help them in improving aesthetics and basically in eating their food. But do you know what are they called? yes they are the Dentures being used in people with total tooth loss for aiding in mastication and speaking.

So, what is the procedure of a permanent denture or how do we get them made?

Normally in permanent dentures it takes about three to five weeks for it being made with several appointments with the dentist. Before giving the permanent  dentures a temporary denture is given so as to facilitate patient mastication, aesthetics and help in speaking. thus temporary dentures are made before any extraction is done so as the patient gets the temporary dentures just after extraction and which can help him in eating and basic tooth functions.

After, temporary dentures are given, a new impression is taken and then patient is recalled for a final impression which takes the sulcus and border impression finely and on which further a master cast is made with arranging the matching shade of teeth set. finally it is cured and then finished and polished before delivering to the patient. the patient is asked to wear it for 24 hours even at night to see whether any problem in any part or fit of the denture is seen.

Dental adhesives are given if the fit of the denture is not good so as to facilitate denture insertion properly. Finally when your tongue, sulcus, and muscles of the mouth gets used to the denture , the fit is improved and gets adjusted properly.
