The relationship between your oral and general health is apparently supposed to be nothing when it comes to the mind of the people but the big picture is that your mouth and it’s status reveals everything if monitored properly for any systemic complications.

As they say the mouth works as the window to the rest of your body . So thus oral and general health both are very important at maintaining your body’s well being. So let us ask , What are the things which are provided by a healthy mouth? Confidence ? Well being ? Providing nutrition to the whole body. Yes! So keeping your mouth healthy gives you a kind of mental peace that is one important thing to have other than the general health of physical well being.

So how can we describe the link between these two ? So as we know Bacterias are present in our mouth which can go into our bodies to cause various infections in people with low immunity thus it impacts the body by causing diseases like infective endocarditis. Similarly, many systemic diseases have its impact on the oral cavity like HIV infection is manifested as lesions in the mouth, bleeding gums is seen in many blood disorders. Many periodontal diseases are seen to be associated with systemic ailments like in Diabetes, leukaemia.

Depending upon the various causes or factors we can show how the oral and general health are related to similar sources :

  1. A proper diet gives you good oral and general health but a bad diet can also lead you to dental caries and health diseases, diabetes or obesity.
  2. Smoking and tobacco consumption also have a very bad effect on both your oral and general health. It is linked from periodontal diseases to coronary heart diseases and strokes .
  3. Injuries are also a reason for causing dental trauma like tooth fractures and systemic injuries.
  4. Stress is another common cause of various diseases like periodontal and cardiovascular .
  5. Alcohol consumption is also seen to be a major cause for oral cancers and liver diseases like cirrhosis and cardiovascular problems.
